I went to the Los Angeles County Arboretum last Saturday to watch a documentary about Rudolph Schindler and left with a different discovery. Tucked away near the entrance is the Arboretum Library, the largest botanical library in California. With more than 30,000 books, it mirrors the living collections just outside its doors, with shelves devoted to the plants of South Africa, Australia, the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, and beyond. If you’re looking for inspiration for your own garden or outdoor space, I can’t imagine a better place to spend an afternoon.
